Object
  1. To assist early readers to instantly recognize common high frequency words (sight words) to assist in their reading speed, comprehension and fluency. A lot of these words do not follow standard rules for sounding them out, and thus must be practiced by sight recognition.

  2. To learn multi-tasking concepts. Reading of each word is required, but matching is done by matching other concepts and/or objects, not the same word. This multi-tasking concept facilitates short-term memory skills while learning the words. Most importantly, it does not allow one to simply match the words by sight. Matching is done by matching concepts and objects on the opposite side of the card.
Rules

This game is for two players and is appropriate for early readers ages 5-9. The game is fun with adult participation of all ages also.

  1. Select all match pair cards, or you may select a number of matched pairs to play.
  2. Shuffle the cards well.
  3. Place the cards on a table in a pattern of your choice with the Sight Words up.
  4. Select who goes first and the direction of rotation.
  5. Player reads a Sight Word. Correct reading of the word must be done before the card is turned over. Assistance, with a positive attitude, should be given if needed. Once correctly read, player turns the card over for all to see the object/concept on the other side of the card (e.g., 2 of Hearts, Ace of Spades, etc.)
  6. Player then selects a second Sight Word following the same procedures as in step 5
    1. If the object/concept sides of both cards do not match, player turns both cards over to show the Sight Words and the next player repeats steps 5 and 6. All players need to memorize the placement of the face (object/concept) cards (e.g. 2 of Hearts) for future pair matches. Jokers are included in the game and can be used as a direct match or as a wild card if you wish.
    2. If the object/concept sides of both cards do match, then player picks the pair up and places it in their pile for counting at game's end. Player now gets another chance t match object/concept cards and repeats steps 5 and 6. Player's turn ends when no match is made.
  7. End of game occurs when all cards used are matched.
  8. Scoring: Each player counts the number of matched pairs they have in their pile, and the player with the most matched pairs is the winner of that round. Players may decide how many rounds to a game, with the most cumulative points deciding the winner.
